아부다비에서 주말에 주로 하는 것

음… 솔직히 말해서 아부다비에서 할게 많지는 않다.
예전에 싱가폴에서 아부다비로 올때
주변 사람들이 중동가서 살면 지루할 거라고 충고했었던 기억이 난다.

특히 여름엔 더 ㅠㅠ
낮에 너무 더우니 밖에서 할 수 있는게 많이 없다.
언젠가 제일 더운 7월에 55도 까지 찍히는걸 봤다 ㅎㅎ
보통 사람들은 절대 상상할 수 없는 날씨.
매년 여름마다 사람이 살 수없는 곳이라 생각된다고 하면 알까.
매 여름마다 친구들이나 지인들한테 더운 날씨에서 돼지 통구이 되고 있다고 하는중 ㅜㅜ
지금도 날씨가 점점 더워져서 밖에 있기가 힘들어진다.. 이래서 차가 무조건 있어야 함. 


보통 내가 주말마다 하는건
토요일에 늦게자고 일어나서 밥먹고 운동가거나 쉬고 남편이랑 드라이브 가기.

근교에 갈 곳이나 할 게 많은건 아니지만 집에만 있기 답답해 하는 남편때문에 이유나 목적없이 많이 돌아다니는 편.

일요일엔 아침 운동 클래스 들으러가서 근력운동 조지기. 그리고나서 집안일 빨레하고 청소하고 일주일치 식재료 장봐오고 등등.

아부다비 와서 필러테스건 헬스건 이것 저것 운동 열심히 하는 편인데
싱가폴 살 때 비하면 많이 움직이진 않아서인지 나이가 먹어서인지 운동 하는 만큼 결과가 잘 보이진 않는듯 ^.,^
싱가폴에선 지하철이나 버스를타러 걸어서 가야하는데, 여긴 집에서 지하 주차장으로 가서 바로 차타고 이동이니. 차를 항상 타고 다니니까 예전보다 알게모르게 움직임이 많이 줄어드는 것 같다. 

가끔 한두달에 한번씩은 금요일밤에 전회사 친구들 만나서 술도먹고 맛난 음식도 먹는다.

우리가 자주 가는 곳은 그리스 음식 파는 레스토랑.
매번 다른데 가자고해서 다른데 가도 그 다음엔 항상 결국엔 다시 여기로 오게됨 ㅋㅋ

사진 보니까 또 먹고싶다.
내가 좋아하는 문어도 있고 새우도 있고 와인도 있고.
사진에 있는건 올림푸스라는 칵테일인데 존맛탱.

아랍에미레이트 술집들은 원래 호텔에 있는 곳만 오픈가능했었는데 (관광객들이 즐길 수 있게) 최근엔 호텔이 아니어도 오픈이 가능한 지역이 꽤 생겼다. 이슬람국가지만 많이 오픈되어있어서 외국인들이 살기 좋은 곳. 

개인적으로 이런 특정 나라의 레스토랑에 오면 맛도 맛이고 가격도 가격이지만
여기선 특히 얼마나 퀄리티 큰트롤을 유지를 잘 하느냐가 중요한 것 같다.
처음에 레스토랑 오픈하고서 괜찮았는데 그 다음에 갔을때 맛이 변하거나 퀄리티가 별로이게 된 경우를 꽤 봄.


주말을 마무리하면서 매 일요일 저녁은 한국식당에 간다. 남편이 더 좋아함…

삼겹살이랑 돼지고기 들은 김치찌개도 있다. 아부다비 살기 좋아짐 ㅎㅎ

 

한국식당도 아부다비 시티에는 처음에 두 세군데정도밖에 없었는데, 요즘엔 계속 생겨나는 추세이다. 
한국인이 운영하는 식당도 많이 생기고, 필리핀 주인이 한국식당 따라하는곳도 생겼다 ㅋㅋ; - 이런덴 안감. 

가끔 주말에 박물관이나 아부다비에서 행사나 콘서트가 있으면 가기도 한다. 
근데 그런건 가아아끔 일어나는 일이라 ㅎㅎ
내 주변 친구들 보면 주말에 쇼핑하러 많이 다니던데, 이것도 나는 구지. 흠.

 

다음 블로그에는 우리가 주말여행으로 자주가는 오만에 대해서 써봐야겠다.

Hmm… To be honest, there isn’t much to do in Abu Dhabi at the weekend. 
I remember when I moved from Singapore to Abu Dhabi a while back,
people around me warned me that living in the Middle East would be boring.

Especially in the summer.

It’s so hot during the day that there isn’t much you can do outside.
I once saw the temperature hit 55 degrees in July, the hottest month of the year, haha

It’s the kind of weather most people can’t even imagine.
Would you understand if I told you that every summer, I think this place is uninhabitable?
Every summer, I tell my friends and acquaintances that I’m getting roasted like a pig in this heat.
Even now, the weather is getting hotter and hotter, making it hard to be outside… That’s why you absolutely need a car.

 

Here’s what I usually do on the weekends:
On Saturdays, I sleep in, wake up, eat breakfast, then either work out or just relax, and go for a drive with my husband.

There aren’t that many places to go or things to do nearby, but since my husband gets restless staying home all the time, we tend to drive around a lot without any particular reason or destination.

 

On Sundays, I go to a morning workout class and really push myself with strength training. After that, I do housework - laundry, cleaning, grocery shopping for the week, and so on.

Since coming to Abu Dhabi, I’ve been working out hard - whether it’s Pilates or the gym - but maybe because I don’t move around as much as I did when I lived in Singapore, or maybe because I’m getting older, I don’t seem to see the results I used to from my workouts.

In Singapore, I had to walk to catch the subway or bus, but here I just go from my house to the underground parking garage and hop right into my car. Since I’m always driving around, I think my physical activity has decreased a lot without me even realizing it compared to before.

 

Every once in a while - maybe once every month or two - I meet up with friends from my old company on Friday nights to have drinks and enjoy some good food.

Our go-to spot is a Greek restaurant.
We always say we’ll try somewhere different, but no matter where we go, we always end up coming back here in the end, haha.

Looking at these photos makes me want to eat there again.
They have my favorite octopus, shrimp, and wine.
The drink in the photo is a cocktail called “Olympus” - it’s absolutely delicious.

In the UAE, bars used to only be allowed to operate inside hotels (so tourists could enjoy them), but recently, quite a few areas have opened up where bars can operate even outside of hotels. Even though it’s an Islamic country, it’s quite open-minded, making it a great place for foreigners to live.

Personally, when I visit restaurants in a specific country like this, it’s not just about the taste or the price -
I think what really matters here is how well they maintain a consistently high level of quality.

I’ve seen quite a few cases where a restaurant was good when it first opened, but the next time I went, the taste had changed or the quality had dropped. Well, this could happen everywhere.

 

To wrap up the weekend, I go to a Korean restaurant every Sunday evening. My husband likes it even more…
They serve samgyeopsal and pork in kimchi stew. Life in Abu Dhabi is getting better, haha.
At first, there were only two or three Korean restaurants in Abu Dhabi City, but these days, new ones keep popping up.

A lot of restaurants run by Koreans have opened, and there are even some run by Filipinos who are trying to imitate Korean restaurants lol; — I don’t usually go to places like that.

Sometimes on weekends, I’ll go to a museum or an event or concert in Abu Dhabi.
But that kind of thing happens veeeery rarely, haha.

Looking at my friends, a lot of them go shopping on the weekends, but I’m not really into that either. Hmm.
