아부다비에서 자주가는 근교여행, 오만 - Oman weekend trip

이때까지 총 몇 번 간지 기억도 안나게 자주 간 오만 
같은 중동에 있는 나라이고 바로 옆이라 차로 갈 수 있는 나라인데,
아랍에미레이트랑은 비슷하면서도 또 전혀 다른 오만. 
분위기는 뭔가 더 한적하고, 느긋하고 욕심이 없는 느낌. 
그리고 사람들이 보통 자연이랑 잘 어우러져서 사는 것 같다.
시골가면 되게 순진한 애들이 외국인을 처음 보는것마냥 부끄러워하면서 인사도 건네고 
순수한 면을 많이 보게 되는 것 같다. 
 
우리는 보통 주말 금, 토, 일 운전해서 다녀오거나, 
전에는 며칠 휴가 더 쓰고서 더 멀리 갔다 오거나, 제작년에는 연말 연휴도 오만에서도 지냈다. 
 
제작년 까지는 니즈와 Nizwa 라는 시티 근처를 자주 갔었는데,

이 동네에가면 중동에서 많이 볼 수 있는 수크 (Souq, 우리나라로 치면 전통 시장같은 곳) 랑 박물관도 있고, 성 요새(여긴 돈 내야함ㅎ 인당 5 OMR 였던걸로 기억한다) 도 있어 걸어다니면서 이것 저것 구경할 수 있는게 많다. 
현지인들이 전통적인 행사를 치루는것도 볼 수 있고, 우리나라 경복궁가면 볼수 있는 수문장 교대식처럼 현지인들이 현지 전통적인 춤이나 행사를 하는것도 볼수 있다. 예전에 쓰던 방이나 옥상에는 성 요새 - 옛날에 방어하던 모습을 다 알 수 있다.
저 동네 자체가 오래된 동네라 집들이나 샵들이 다 전통 건물을 유지한 곳이 많다. 그냥 걸어닐수있는 온 동네가 박물관이라고 해도될듯ㅋ 
조금 아쉬운건 갈만한 레스토랑이 많이 없다는 것. 
어떻게 보면 전통이나 현지것을 중요하게 생각해서 좋지만 그만큼 외래것이 많이 없다. 
맥도날드나 버거킹 이런 프렌차이즈도 전국에 3개?4개 정도 있나.ㅋㅋ 귀여움.

옥상 뷰. 날씨 좋다

옛날에 지어진 집을 숙소로 만들어 놓은 대표적인 숙박집이다. 아기자기하니 꾸며놓은것도 이쁘고, 여기저기 둘러볼수 있는 작은 박물관처럼 예전에 썼었던 오랜 부품들이 있는 디스플레이도 많다. 특히나 방도 조그만해서 귀여움. 
방 문 높이가 작아서 남편이 머리를 자주 박기도 했다...ㅋㅋ

이 숙박 건물 뒤엔 버려진 도시라는 건물 모양 형태만 남아있는 도시가 있다. 걸어다니면서 사람이 살았던 흔적도 볼 수 있고, 알 팔라지 Al falaj 라는 작은 수로도 볼 수있다. 보통 산에서 내려오는 폭포 같은데서 동네로 내려오는듯. 

 여긴 또 다른 산, Jebel Ahkdar 제벨 악ㅌ다(초록 산 이라는뜻ㅋㅋ 이름 지을때 성의좀 있게짓지)

 이 수로를 따라서 계속 계속가면 산으로 올라가거나 내려가거나. 나름 등산로라고 할까 ㅎㅎ
얼마나 오랜시간에 걸쳐서 이 수로를 만들었을까. 지금은 시멘트로 덮혀져 있지만 그 전엔 대충 있는대로 돌 흙 진흙으로 짓지 않았을까? 

제발 아크다르는 우리가 너무 좋아하는 곳이라 다른 편에 더 이어서 쓸 예정.

오만은 산도 많고 자연이 더 풍부하다. 밑에 사진들은 다 다른 지역 산.
 

그리고 최근에 가는 곳은 알 함라 라는 곳인데, 아부다비에서 조금 더 가까운 지역이고, 관광객들한테 덜 유명한 지역이라 한적하고 그 지역 현지인들이나 자연을 그대로 즐길 수 있다.

아부다비에서 차로 한 4-5 시간 걸려 갈 수있어서 주말여행으로 딱임.

공기도 다르고
새소리 벌레소리 (모기도 가끔)
자연이랑 가까워진 느낌.


알 함라 지역에서 또 더 산으로 올라가면 이런 돔으로 된 숙소가 있다.
뷰도 좋고 주변에 산이랑 동물들 밖에 없어서 좋다 ㅎㅎ

이 곳에서 두번이나 묵었다.

여기 주변에 식당이 거의 없어서
삼겹살이앙 부대찌개 바리바리 가져와서 해먹는다 ㅋㅋ

일단은 여기까지. 오만 사진 너무 많아서 좀 추려봐야겠다.

I’ve been to Oman so many times I’ve lost count - it’s a country in the Middle East, right next to United Arab Emirates, so close you can drive there.
It’s similar to the UAE, yet completely different.
The atmosphere feels more tranquil, laid-back, and unpretentious.
And the people seem to live in perfect harmony with nature.
When you go to the countryside, you see very innocent children who greet you shyly, as if they’ve never seen a foreigner before, and you get to witness a lot of that pure innocence. 
 
We usually drive there on the weekend - Friday, Saturday, and Sunday - or, in the past, we’d take a few extra days off to go farther, and the year before last, we even spent the New Year’s holiday in Oman. 
 

Until the year before last, we often visited the area around the cities of Nizwa and if you visit this old town, you’ll find a souq (similar to an old traditional market in Korea) and a museum - both common sights in the Middle East - as well as a castle fortress (you have to pay to enter; I think it was 5 OMR per person). There’s plenty to see and do as you walk around. 
You can also witness locals holding traditional ceremonies, and it's like thechanging of the guard ceremony at Gyeongbokgung Palace in Korea, you can see locals performing traditional dances or holding local events.
In the old rooms and on the rooftops, you can get a full sense of what the fortress looked like back when it was used for defense.
Since the neighborhood itself is old, many of the houses and shops have preserved their traditional architecture. You could almost say the whole neighborhood is a museum just by walking around it.
The only downside is that there aren’t many restaurants worth visiting. 
In a way, it’s great that they value tradition and local culture, but that also means there aren’t many foreign options. 
There are maybe three or four franchises like McDonald’s or Burger King in the whole country? It is really cute.

 
There are many places here that have been converted into guesthouses from traditional buildings, and the one we often go to is called "Bait AlSabah Heritage Inn". This is a classic guesthouse converted from an old house. It’s charmingly decorated and looks lovely, and there are plenty of displays featuring old artifacts from the past, making it feel like a small museum you can explore. 
The rooms are especially cute because they’re small and cozy.
The doorways are low, so my husband kept bumping his head... lol
If you keep following the wate stream (it's called al falaj in arabic), you’ll end up going up or down a mountain. I guess you could call it a hiking trail.
I wonder how long it took to build this waterway. It’s covered in cement now, but I imagine they built it using whatever they had on hand - rocks, dirt, and mud - back then.

Oman has many mountains and is rich in natural beauty - Peace and quiet.

And a place I’ve been visiting recently is Al Hamra. It’s a bit closer to Abu Dhabi and less well-known among tourists, so it’s quiet and you can enjoy the pure local vibe and nature just as they are.
It takes about 4-5 hours by car from Abu Dhabi, making it perfect for a weekend getaway.

The air feels different,
with the sounds of birds and insects (and the occasional mosquito).
It feels like I’m closer to nature.

If you go even further up into the mountains from Al Hamra, there are these dome-shaped lodgings.
The view is great, and it’s nice because there’s nothing around but mountains and animals, haha.
I’ve stayed there twice.

There are almost no restaurants around here, so we bring plenty of pork belly and budae jjigae to cook ourselves, haha.
Thanks to the Korean supermarkets! Thanks to the Korean instant food!
